Blueprints

Documentation that opens on the diagram

A blueprint is a document that opens on a diagram. Draw the system, write the detail into the shapes, publish one link. Change it later and every reader has the new version.

Why Blueprints

Diagram-first documents that never drift.

  1. blueprintr.io/acme/platform

    The diagram is the page

The canvas is the front page. A reader sees the whole system before reading a word of it, then opens the box they came for.

  2. stratum · api gateway
    34%81%

    Detail lives in the shape

Click a shape and its stratum opens: markdown, tables, code, files, links. You never leave the diagram to read the detail.

  3. your wiki

    One link, no export step

Publish once. Share the URL, or paste the embed into Confluence, SharePoint, a README, your intranet. All of them show the current version.

FAQ

Questions about Blueprints

What is a blueprint?

A document whose front page is a diagram. The canvas shows the system, each shape can hold its own markdown, tables, code and files, and the whole thing publishes to one URL.

Do I need a paid plan to publish one?

No. Blueprints are on the free plan.

Can I keep a blueprint private?

Every blueprint is public, private, unlisted or a draft. On Team you can also put a password on the ones you send to a client.

Can I put a blueprint in Confluence or a README?

Yes. One embed code works in Confluence, SharePoint, an intranet or a README, and it shows the current version rather than a screenshot taken on the day you pasted it.

What happens to the old version when I publish again?

It is kept. The history shows what changed in the document's text at each publish.

Which diagram editor does a blueprint use?

Vellum by default. Draw.io, Excalidraw and Mermaid are available too, and shapes in all four can carry a stratum.

Draw the first diagram. The document follows.
