Blueprintr vs Eraser
Both put a diagram and its documentation in one place. Eraser generates diagrams from code and keeps a markdown document beside the canvas. Blueprintr puts the documentation inside the shapes and publishes the result as a live page.

The short version
Choose Blueprintr if
You want the detail behind each shape, a document readers navigate by clicking the diagram, and a live scan of AWS or Azure that stays scoped to one system.
Choose Eraser if
Your diagrams should come from Terraform, CloudFormation or a codebase, live in a GitHub repository as text, and be refreshed by a bot on every pull request.
Use both when
Eraser drafts a diagram from the code in a repository. The reviewed version is redrawn in Blueprintr, where the runbook and the owner sit behind the shapes and the page is embedded in Confluence.
How Eraser works
Eraser stores a file as a canvas plus a markdown document. You draw shapes directly, write them in Eraser's own diagram-as-code syntax, or ask the AI to generate them from a description, a Terraform module or a connected cloud account. A GitHub integration syncs the markdown and PNG renders into a repository, and Eraserbot posts updated diagrams on pull requests.
Blueprintr is diagram-first documentation. You draw the system in Vellum, write the detail into the shapes as strata, and publish one live URL. On Team, Continuum Cloud draws AWS and Azure from a read-only scan, and on AWS it also shows Terraform drift on the canvas. On Enterprise, Continuum Link attaches timestamped snapshots from monitoring and ITSM tools to the shapes, and Continuum Local sweeps your on-premise network from inside it so Blueprintr can draw it.

Where Blueprintr differs
The document is behind the shapes
In Eraser the markdown sits beside the canvas as one document. In Blueprintr every shape carries its own stratum: markdown, tables, code, files and links open when a reader clicks the box. The overview stays readable and the depth is one click down.
The scan lands as an editable document
Continuum Cloud scans a scope you choose in AWS or Azure and produces a Vellum canvas with a stratum on every resource. Re-scan later and the diagram shows what changed. On AWS, Terraform state reconciliation puts drift on the same canvas.
One live URL, embedded anywhere
A blueprint publishes to a page with tabs, a contents tree and a Pages and Strata sidebar. The same page embeds in Confluence, SharePoint or a README, and readers open strata inside the embed.
Unlimited files on the free plan
Eraser's free plan holds three files. Blueprintr's free plan holds unlimited public and private blueprints, with Vellum, draw.io and the vendor icon packs.
Where Eraser is the better choice
Teams who want diagrams generated from Terraform, CloudFormation or a codebase, kept in a GitHub repository as text, and updated by a bot on pull requests.
- Diagram-as-code with a text syntax you can diff in a pull request.
- Eraserbot reads Terraform, CloudFormation and Kubernetes YAML from private repositories and comments updated diagrams on pull requests.
- AI file-to-diagram accepts Visio, draw.io, PDF, DOCX and images, and converts Visio and draw.io files into native, editable diagrams.
- A read-only connector for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, scanned on demand.

Moving work from Eraser
Export each Eraser diagram as SVG or PNG and each document as Markdown. The Markdown pastes into a stratum or a folium page as it is. Diagrams are redrawn in Vellum, or brought in as images through the import wizard and redrawn behind the picture at your own pace. If the diagram came from Terraform, connect the remote state to Continuum on the Team plan and let the scan draw it.
Frequently asked
Is Blueprintr diagram-as-code like Eraser?
Partly. A Mermaid tab renders from text and sits next to drawn tabs in the same blueprint. Vellum diagrams are drawn by hand or generated by AI, then edited on the canvas. If every diagram must be text in a repository, Eraser is the closer fit.
Can Blueprintr generate a diagram from Terraform?
Continuum Cloud reads Terraform remote state for AWS connections on the Team plan and shows drift against what is running on the diagram. It does not read a module from a pull request the way Eraserbot does.
Which one keeps the diagram current?
Eraser rescans a cloud connection when you ask. Blueprintr rescans on request too, and on Enterprise Continuum Link adds monitoring and service context from PagerDuty, Datadog, ServiceNow and other connectors to a shape's Stratum. Editors refresh those saved snapshots on demand; readers see when the information was fetched.
Does either work with Claude Code or Cursor?
Both. Eraser's MCP server spends AI credits on each call. Blueprintr's personal MCP server and REST API use scoped keys you mint in Settings.
