How Microsoft Visio works
Visio is a freeform editor with stencils and templates, including Azure and AWS shape sets on Plan 1 and Plan 2. Plan 2 adds the Windows desktop app, data linking to Excel, SharePoint and SQL, and Data Visualizer diagrams generated from a spreadsheet. Files save to OneDrive and SharePoint, embed in SharePoint pages and Teams, and history comes from the document library.
Blueprintr is diagram-first documentation. You draw the system in Vellum, write the detail into the shapes as strata, and publish one live URL. On Team, Continuum Cloud draws AWS and Azure from a read-only scan, and on AWS it also shows Terraform drift on the canvas. Moving work from Microsoft Visio
Export each Visio drawing as SVG or PNG, or as VSDX and open it in draw.io, which imports VSDX and lives inside Blueprintr as an engine. The shapes then take strata directly. Redraw the architecture diagrams in Vellum with the vendor icon packs when you want live collaboration or Continuum. On Enterprise, embed the finished blueprint back into the SharePoint page the Visio file used to sit on.

Can Blueprintr open Visio files?
Not directly. Open the VSDX in draw.io, which imports Visio and runs inside Blueprintr as an engine, or export SVG and PNG.
Does Blueprintr run on a Mac?
Yes. Vellum runs in the browser and as a native app on macOS, Windows and Linux. Visio's desktop app is Windows only.
Does Visio draw Azure from a live subscription?
No. It ships Azure and AWS stencils on Plan 1 and Plan 2. Blueprintr draws AWS and Azure from a read-only scan on Team.
