Blueprintr vs Cloudcraft
Both connect to an AWS or Azure account read-only and draw what is there. Cloudcraft produces an isometric inventory with a cost estimate. Blueprintr produces a document: a canvas with a stratum on every resource, Terraform drift on the same canvas, and one live URL.

The short version
Choose Blueprintr if
You want the scan to produce a document you can annotate, scope to one system and publish, with Terraform drift on the same canvas and the runbook behind each resource.
Choose Cloudcraft if
You want an inventory picture of a whole account with a cost estimate, and isometric 3D is how your team likes to see infrastructure.
Use both when
Cloudcraft's cost view is used for budgeting, while the architecture that people read and maintain lives in Blueprintr.
How Cloudcraft works
Cloudcraft connects to an AWS or Azure account through a read-only cross-account role and generates a diagram of the resources it finds, in a 2D view or an isometric 3D view. A live diagram reflects the account when it is opened; editing it converts it to a snapshot. Components carry a budget and attached documentation, and a Confluence app embeds diagrams for signed-in Confluence users.
Blueprintr is diagram-first documentation. You draw the system in Vellum, write the detail into the shapes as strata, and publish one live URL. On Team, Continuum Cloud draws AWS and Azure from a read-only scan, and on AWS it also shows Terraform drift on the canvas. On Enterprise, Continuum Link attaches timestamped snapshots from monitoring and ITSM tools to the shapes, and Continuum Local sweeps your on-premise network from inside it so Blueprintr can draw it.

Where Blueprintr differs
A scan becomes a document
Continuum Cloud scans a scope you choose and lands a Vellum canvas with a stratum on every resource. You annotate it, add the owner and the runbook, and publish. The scan is the start of the document rather than the whole of it.
Terraform on the same canvas
Point an AWS connection at your remote state and drift between what you declared and what is running shows on the diagram. Cloudcraft removed its Terraform export and does not read state.
Scoped, not the whole estate
Scope a scan by account, region, VPC, subnet or resource group. A diagram shows one system, and the rest of the account stays out of the picture.
Embeds that work for public readers
A blueprint embeds in Confluence, SharePoint or a README as a live frame, and readers open strata inside it. Cloudcraft's Confluence embeds are only visible to signed-in Confluence users.
Where Cloudcraft is the better choice
Teams who want an auto-generated inventory diagram of an AWS or Azure account with a running cost estimate, especially if they already use Datadog.
- Isometric 3D diagrams that many teams find easier to present.
- A running cost estimate attached to the diagram, per component.
- Live diagrams that reflect the account when opened, with named versions kept indefinitely on paid plans.
- A Confluence app and an API that exports diagrams as SVG, PNG, PDF or mxGraph.
- Free SSO for existing Datadog customers on any plan.

Moving work from Cloudcraft
Export the diagrams you want to keep as SVG or PNG, then connect the same AWS or Azure account to Continuum Cloud on the Team plan with a fresh read-only role. Scope the scan to the system each diagram showed and the canvas is drawn for you, with a stratum on every resource ready for the notes you had attached to components. The cost figures do not come across; keep Cloudcraft for budgeting if you rely on them.
Frequently asked
Does Blueprintr draw AWS and Azure from a live account like Cloudcraft?
Yes, on the Team plan. Continuum Cloud takes a read-only role or a Reader app registration and scans a scope you choose. The result is a Vellum canvas you edit and publish.
Does Blueprintr do isometric 3D?
No. Vellum draws flat architecture diagrams with vendor icons. If 3D is the reason your team opens Cloudcraft, that is a point for Cloudcraft.
Does Blueprintr estimate cost?
No. Cloudcraft attaches a budget to the diagram; Blueprintr does not read billing data.
What happens when the account changes?
Re-scan and the diagram shows what changed. Terraform drift shows on the same canvas when an AWS connection points at remote state.
Draw the first diagram. The document follows.
